IC
Name: Noctis Lucis Caelum
Canon: Final Fantasy XV
Canon Point: End of chapter 8; just as he leaves for Altissia.
Age: 20
Appearance: here
Abilities:

As the heir to the Lucian throne, Noctis has inherited a lot of powerful abilities through his bloodline that make a him a formidable opponent in battle.

➨ General Combat: Noctis had been training to fight with every single weapon type since he was a child, so he's proficient in all ranged weapons, melee weapons, magic, shields, etc. He's also extremely agile and exhibits an acrobatic and aerial format of combat that grows more powerful as abilities are unlocked for him. Furthermore, he can perform link strike attacks with his friends, meaning they work together mid-battle to perform certain coordinated maneuvers.

➨ Warping: Point-warping and warp striking are two key abilities commanded by the royal Lucis Caelum family. While in Kingsglaive, it's suggested that the ability to warp can be passed on to the members of the royal guard, Noctis never lends this ability to his friends and remains the only one in game who can warp in battle (aside from Ardyn). Point-warping means he just tosses a weapon to a high spot for a short distance and hangs there to recover HP and MP. Warp-striking allows him to use his weapon and throw it at one of his opponents before warping to catch up to it and deliver a blow. It's used as a great gap closer in combat and also to perform stealth attacks.

➨ Ascension skills: Noctis unlocks a giant wealth of abilities as the game goes on by using AP. The full list of unlockable abilities can be found here. They increase how Noctis is able to move and strike in battle and even allow him to increase aerial combat while expending MP. They also boost his magic and make it so that he can create a decoy of himself when he warps away.

➨ Elemancy: Noctis has the ability to draw from three primary elements (ice, fire, and lightning). He can absorb them from natural minerals and other kind of objects that contain magic. Once absorbed, he's able to mix magic with items and craft them into the different kinds of spells that he and his friends and can use any time in combat once they are stored in flasks. Magic crafting creates a wide variety of spells that all have different abilities depending on the elements and items used.

➨ Armiger Arsenal: Another power that is essential to the Lucis Caelum bloodline is the ability to hold all kinds of weapons in a magical arsenal. Primarily, the royal arms of the old kings of Lucis can be stored there and pulled out when needed, but Noctis can also add regular mundane weapons that he can switch through and use for combat purposes. In the game, he's limited to certain weapon types …plus his fishing rod for some reason.

➨ Armiger: This ability serves as the classic Final Fantasy "limit break." Once Noctis has acquired at least four royal arms from his family, he can easily summon them to float around him so he can use them in an all-out melee attack that takes out a huge chuck of damage from the enemy. The more royal arms he acquires, the stronger his armiger gets, and the ascension grid also has ways to improve his armiger and make it more powerful. He also has a second armiger that he can perform with his friends, allowing his powers and weapons to cycle through them so that they can all strike at their opponent.

➨ Curatives: Potions, elixirs, antidotes, etc. in their world are all noted as just being energy drinks that only take on restorative properties and the ability to cure certain status ailments through Noctis' power. It implies he has healing magic, but it can only be imbued through liquids that already exist so he and others can consume them.

➨ Summons: By forming covenants with the astrals, Noctis is able to call upon them to help with battle if he's in a dire situation. Given the astrals' fickle personalities, not all of them are eager to rescue him however, so it's not a power he has active control over. They just appear when at their whim. The summons include Titan, Ramuh, Leviathan, Shiva, and Bahamut. From the point in canon I am drawing Noctis from, he has only received Titan's and Ramuh's blessings and can't summon any other astrals.

➨ Ring of the Lucii: The ring of the Lucii is a ring passed down along the line of kings from the Lucis Caelum family. It's said to hold "forbidden magic," and in Kingsglaive, it is shown that the wearer must be of the Lucis Caelum bloodline or will have to face judgment in front of the Lucii, the old Kings of Lucis, which can lead to death or body parts being disintegrated. Since Noctis is from the Lucis Caelum line, he can wield it without an issue. The ring comes equipped with three spells: Death, Holy, and Alterna. Death drains the life out of low-leveled creatures and uses up Noctis' MP has he does it. Holy has a knock back ability that repels daemons. Alterna is an area of effect spell that drains several creatures of life at once but also cleans out Noctis' MP bar. Aside from that, in Kingsglaive, Nyx, the only non-Caelum to ever put on the ring and not get burnt up, was able to summon the old Lucian kings (Knights of the Round) using the ring and have them wreak havoc on the empire during Insomnia's invasion.

**Given the canon point I'm taking Noctis from, he won't have access to the ring or any of its abilities since he receives it very late in the game**

➨ Sharing abilities: In Kingsglaive, it is said that the King of the Lucis Caelum line is able to share his own abilities and magic with members of his choosing. While King Regis, Noctis' father, is able to share abilities like warping and direct access to magic with the Kingsglaive, Noctis is more limited in that he can give his friends magic flasks so they can use his spells, and they can only access weapons from within his own arsenal. Gladio is able to share great swords/shields/magic with Noctis; Prompto can share guns/firearms/machinery/magic with Noctis; Ignis can share ranged daggers/polearms/magic with Noctis. Because of this, if Noctis' powers are ever locked out or made unavailable, his party members lose complete access to any of their weapons and magic.

➨ Crystal: Noctis' bloodline is tied with the crystal of Lucis, and he himself is the chosen King of Light. King Regis had used the crystal to create a protective barrier around the crown city of Insomnia for years before it was attacked. The crystal can now be used to fight off daemons through the light emits, and Noctis in the end of game absorbs all the light of it into his body for ten years to become extremely powerful. The crystal ends up enhancing all his magic, armiger, warping abilities, etc. Again, not an issue since it happens way after his chosen canon point.

(Optional) Personality:

As the next in line to be the King of Lucis, Noctis had grown up with a lot of responsibilities and expectations foisted upon him from birth. Additionally, he's been chosen as the King of Light by the crystal, meaning since he was five years old, he's harbored the destiny of having to die to eradicate the Starscourge and return the dawn to Eos, but rather than being made to embrace his destiny by his father, King Regis had sought to protect him from it instead and allowed him to live a relatively normal life while refusing to tell him of his impending sacrifice, thinking he could somehow protect him from his fate. As a result, Noctis grew up as a fairly average (if not slightly spoiled and sheltered) child and didn't develop much of the regal disposition his father possesses, instead being frequently referred to as lacking in charm and dignity by those who know him best or anyone who meets him in person really. He's never been outwardly noble and prefers to spend his days sleeping, playing video games, lazing about, and avoiding responsibilities like any other young adult rather than addressing any of his personal issues head on. A radio report on him suggests that he does have above average intelligence and had completed school with high marks, but he rarely if ever shows off his intellect, preferring to rely on his friend, Ignis, to do that for him.

As a child, Noctis had been noted as being very jovial and sociable up until he'd been attacked by a daemon known as Marilith who had nearly killed him. After that, Noctis had become lonely and withdrawn, refusing to interact much with others and rarely laughing or smiling. In the Brotherhood anime, some of the episodes of him as a child depict him as quiet and shy, avoiding engaging with other kids his age and constantly looking melancholy, though his interactions with Gladio, Ignis, Prompto, and Iris, show that he had retained a lot of inner-sweetness in him in spite of what happened to him and that he deeply cares about others. When young Iris had sneaked out of the Citadel to chase after a cat and had gotten lost, he was the one who went after her and helped rescue her then later took the blame for her escape and accepted punishment from the his father on her behalf.

Even at twenty years-old, Noctis remains a combination of being a rather quiet and timid person while still being very sweet and kind on the inside, and he continues to show that he cares a lot about the people around him in spite of what his words or body language might dictate. He is also more perceptive than he leads on and sympathetic to the troubles of the world at large, going out of his way to assist everyone with matters such as helping Sania, a professor, with her research by wading into ponds and catching frogs, helping Dave, a hunter, find dog tags of other fallen hunters, feeding stray cats, and even buying souvenirs to cheer up a young boy named Talcott, whose grandfather had been killed by imperials because of Noctis. He's always been willing to set aside his title completely and help people no matter who they are and what sort of troubles they're in, thinking no task is above or below him.

Unfortunately, he also happens to be rather self-conscious about how others perceive and over-compensates for his underlying sensitivity by trying to act calm and cool, pretending to be far more confident than he actually is. He is, in fact, incredibly awkward, especially when it comes to talking to strangers. He's not the most sociable of guys and struggles to express himself sincerely even in front of his friends, so he tends to default towards mockery or behaving flippant and detached rather than being open and honest with anyone. He can be rather sarcastic and has no trouble sassing at his friends or being cranky and moody around them if pressed, something that's earned him a reputation of being a bit troublesome to look after. This doesn't mean he's incapable of smiling and enjoying himself when the mood calls for it, as he shows plenty of times that he can express happiness and have fun along with his friends, even going so far as to break down into uproarious laughter when Ignis' glasses get stolen by a chocobo during one of the game's many side quests. He also tends to become excitable at the prospect of fishing or in regards to video games, sometimes blatantly showcasing his nerdy side much to his own embarrassment.

Given the fact that he'd grown up with a father whose health had been ailing him for most of his life and knowing the burden he'll have to carry once he becomes king and inherits his ring, Noctis has internalized a lot of his own grief and sadness, which tends to seep out of him when he's pushed beyond his limits. This causes him to occasionally lose control over his emotions and lash out in anger and frustration, such as exploding in front of Cor Leonis, one of King Regis' Crownsguard, when Cor had taken him to the first of the royal tombs and told him about how his father had sacrificed an entire kingdom to save him. Noctis had been unaware of how dire the situation with Niflheim had been, having been kept in the dark by his father for most of his life, so his ability to stay in control of his emotions starts to erode fast from that point on as he learns of the ongoing threat to the world.

As the game unfolds, it becomes more apparent that Noctis is being constantly plagued with guilt and self-doubt when trying to live up to everyone's expectations of what a king should be like while simultaneously fearing failure. When he was about to fight Titan to try and gain his support in joining him on his vengeance against Niflheim for killing his father and destroying Insomnia, he allowed the pressure of the moment, the fear and frustration, all to mount and get to him, destroying his focus, and he had to be roughly snapped out of it by Gladio. He also fell into a stupor after failing to save Luna from death, leaving him heartbroken and depressed for a long time, unable to proceed with the goal of getting the crystal and regaining the rest of his family's royal arms. The loss of his fiancee had crippled him so profoundly that it took him a long time to recover, and he had only done so through the help and support from his friends.

Because of his friends' loyalty and faith in him, they have become Noctis' strongest pillars of support, and he trusts and relies in each of them, letting them serve as his backbone and cheer him up when the occasion calls for it. He cares very deeply about them and and worries for them to the point of putting himself in the line of danger for them instead of standing back and letting himself be the only one who is always protected like a king should. When Prompto had been kidnapped by Ardyn, Noctis had responded with extreme franticness and panic, wanting to save him immediately no matter what the consequence. When Ravus had brutally injured Gladio in front of him, Noctis immediately stepped in to fight him off in retaliation. His friends are his most trusted confidantes, and he's always treated them as equals, taking their advice and guidance to heart instead of lording over them, and he ends up showing an immense amount of gratitude in them by the end of the game, recognizing that they had also sacrificed a lot to come on the same journey with him.

Furthermore, both Noctis' father and his betrothed, Luna, have a tremendous influence on who Noctis is as a person. In the case of his father, Noctis respects him and loves him to the point of constantly fearing for the man's death while growing up. Because he didn't have a mother or any other family members, he cherished his father and regrets that he couldn't be there with them when he died. The car is seen as a physical manifestation of his father's love and their relationship, constantly protecting and guiding Noctis on his journey. As for Luna, she'd been Noctis' friend since childhood and serves as both a guiding light and role model for Noctis, inspiring him to try and draw from her strength and confidence to awaken the Astrals. After seeing her will to fight, he starts to push himself forward and to leave aside his fear so he can do what must be done to save Eos.

Noctis ends up not only venturing out on a physical journey to meet his betrothed and later find the royal arms and the crystal but is also on a journey to mature and take his true place as the king, and he does learn along the way to open his heart to more people as he starts to understand the plight of Niflheim's activities and how the daemons have started to grow out of control. He slowly comes to terms with his father's sacrifice for him and recognizes that being king means making terribly difficult decisions that have a ripple effect on the rest of the world. Rather than remain static, Noctis grows emotionally as a person and starts to exhibit leadership qualities and self-assuredness as he gradually accepts his role as the King of Lucis and King of Light. Knowing there is no one else who can and will do it, he ultimately steps up to fight for the people of Eos and ends up fearlessly facing Ardyn for the final battle after recognizing how impaired he has been since the beginning by his own self-doubts and lack of self-confidence. By the last chapter, he becomes driven and resolute and shows that he has willingly accepted his fate and is no longer fearful of what he must endure.

Alright. Creepy architecture? Check. Dark and misty ambience? Check. Long walking sequences? Check. Someone tell him he's just having a weird dream where he's in a creepy AAA vampire RPG? It's not like the faeries were much help when it came to explaining what all this is, assuming he wasn't imagining that part too.

Go to this place, kill a bunch of monsters... Where has he heard that before?

Just another day in the life really for a rank 7 hunter, but Noctis has been wanting to wake up for once ever since he started up this dream, as cool as this all seems in theory. Considering he was on the cusp of finally getting on that boat to Altissia after being ravaged for weeks by Eos's biggest and creepiest horrors, he's not looking forward to round 2 of all that.

He'd been hoping he'd finally get to see Luna -make sure she's all right. Take in the sights with the guys. Take a few photos. Get her out of there and to somewhere safe. Maybe get some down time before taking out the empire. However, it seems like fate has other plans for him as usual, leaving him stranded in the world's draftiest apartment and putting a bunch of overzealous faeries in charge. What was he supposed to kill again?

A savage roar answers that question, making him stop abruptly in his tracks. Whatever it is, it is probably big, mean, and ugly, and he doesn't have his party around to back him up this time.

He'll just hope there's only one of that around so he can call it a day and get back to the boat.

"...Let's get this over with."

Words grumbled with the enthusiasm of a guy who'd rather be anywhere else at the moment, and true to form, the monster is indeed big, mean, and ugly. Okay, he can do this. Ignis would probably strategize with him about now... maybe something like sneak up from the back? Chop its tail off first before he gets whipped by it? Sounds like a good idea.

Noctis warp-strikes his way between himself and the creature, landing firmly on its back, which seems like the best idea in the world until he's immediately thrown backwards before he can do anything of substance. Yeah, bad idea.

And now the creature is hurling itself at him at full speed. Very bad idea. Time to warp-strike to safety so he can hang from a conveniently high tree and think about what he did.

"New strategy. Maybe wait till it's asleep?"
